GAS-A is the passenger car of the middle class with a 5-seater 4-door  body of “phaeton” type . The first Soviet passenger car of the conveyor assembly. Produced from 1932 to 1936 at the Gorky Automobile Plant, and from 1933 to 1935 at the Moscow plant KIM. The first two cars were assembled on Dec. 8, 1932.  In total were produced 41,917 cars.

Essentially car was an analog of of the American Ford-A and was standardized by parts with the cargo GAZ-AA (analog Ford-AA): similar were the engine, the windshield frame, steering gear, electrical equipment. However, the GAZ-A had a completely different design: the front and rear axles were connected with stamped frame of spars type by two transversal springs. Also, the GAZ-A differed from the American prototype by the strengthened clutch and steering gear. GAZ-A was produced with the four-door “phaeton” body, but it is known about a few prototypes with a two-seater roadster body type. In addition, a small batch, which received the name of the GAZ-A-Aremkuz was issued by Moscow Car Repair Plant “Aremkuz " with closed body of the "sedan ".type. Bodies for these cars had a wooden frame with the shell of steel sheet, and two moldings along the belt line as the exterior finish. GAZ-A Aremkuz was distinguished by the height (1720 mm) and weight (1350 kg).
