Useful info

ZIS-150 (from 1956 -  ZIL-150) is the soviet cargo truck, produced in the period from 1947 till 1957 year. In 1957 was substituted by ZIL-164, being in fact the upgraded ZIL-150.

ZIS-150 was expected  to substitute ZIS-5 even in the late 30-s. Experimental samples of the new truck, named ZIS-15 were built by Stalin Auto Factory in 1938. The car had three-seat all metal cabin, new chassis, and upgraded 82 h.p. engine. The outbreak of the WWII  put aside this program for a long period of time. Only in 1944 new samples, named ZIS-150, had been built on the Stalin Auto Factory.

First lot of ZIS-150 trucks was released on 30 October 1947. Since pre-war tests had shown insufficient engine power it was  increased up to 95 h.p. with 2800 rpm. For the first time in the soviet auto history several innovations had been used in the design of this car. Among them were five-speed gear box and pneumatic brake. Payload was increased from three to four tons. The car received the new cabin ( due to shortage of thin steel sheet in the country it was partly steel with wooden doors) with effective heating . Windshield  had  movable left half, opening upwards.

Full scale production of the new model started on 27 April 1948.

ZIS-150 truck became the basis for the wide range of specialized venicles-truck cranes, dump trucks, timber trucks, cleaning cars, fire engines, tanks, and garbage cars.
